Media Relations Strategy

As someone who has experience in public relations, I suggest that those of us interested in "Press" work to come to agreement on a media relations strategy, so we can develop initiatives for marketing the GlobalRisk Community and encourage more professionals to join. Any good MR strategy should answer the following questions: 
1) What is our target audience? 
2) Where do members of our target audience get their information? 
3) How do we want to portray the Community in the media? (Is the primary focus networking? Do we want the media to rely on the Community for expertise? Etc.) 

By answering these questions, we can effectively target our audience through the sources of information that they rely on most and spread a cohesive and well articulated message.

    Thank you. These are great ideas.

    I would like you to be a core part of the community and contribute to its growth and awareness to Risk management . It would be great if this community expands really well across the globe and we can plan for a large events...eventually

    With regard to your initiative, lets start with small things first and see how it goes. Can you write and distribute regular PR releases from Global Risk community?

    -Create some sort of newsletter or mailers specifically to the press from Global Risk community.
    May be you can organise an USA chapter of GlobalRisk community and use it both to grow your network and to promote community.

    As the next stage we can think of;
    -Regular talks seminars and conferences where the press is invited.
    -Invite the press for an exclusive information risk knowledge sharing session where the press is briefed and taught on aspects related to Risk management.

    May be you can take an interview with somebody outside or inside of community and make it to the press?

    Currently I am working on funding for the community and until we get that I don’t think we can plan for time consuming activities like managing a Facebook group or creating an App unless you can commit your time to it.
    If you have some ideas regarding funding please let me know.

    Let’s start with something small and see how it will develop.
    Let me know if you are interested to start working on press releases, interviews or any other item that can grow membership and promote the community?

    Great questions.

    1. I would say that the target audience are professionals working in the area of risk management in the broad sense of this word and their service providers (consultants, recruiters, IT providers).

    2. Normally they get information via professional magazines, conferences, books

    3. The initial focus is on networking, knowledge sharing, forming new business relationships, profiling and getting known. We formed the panel of Experts group and the Advisory board where we gathered people who are ready to answer questions both to outside and inside community.

    Do you have any further ideas and proposals as how we can target media or shall we create some action plan?
