Taking medicine as prescribed is known as medication adherence – and it is a practice every so often neglected.

Turns out, about 60% of patients with chronic situations like diabetes or high blood pressure don’t take their medicines precisely how they are supposed to,1 and 1 in 5 patients never get their medicines filled in the first place.

That is true for mental health medicines too. As per studies, over 50% of participants didn’t take their antidepressants as agreed, and 44% had stopped taking them entirely within 2-3 months.

These behaviors are called medicine nonadherence, and they have negative results for everyone involved.

According to P&S Intelligence, the global medication adherence market is witnessing growth and is projected to reach USD 11,226.3 million by 2030.

Why Is Medication Adherence Important?

Medication adherence is a vital factor in guaranteeing the success of a treatment plan.

Medication Adherence Ensures That You Give Every Treatment Option a Fair Shot

Medicine adherence is vital as it permits you and your doctor to do a precise assessment of how well medication and dosage operate for your treatment. If you don’t take your medicine reliably and as directed, you won’t truly know if it can help relieve your symptoms or not.

Numerous drugs require to be taken consistently to show their intended impacts. For instance, antidepressants such as selective serotonin-reuptake inhibitors typically need daily administration for two or more weeks to feel the helpful effects.

Adherence can also include taking medication at the same time daily. Some medications, like birth control, must be taken around the same time every day so that the right amount of medicine is always in your body. Too much or too little of a medication in your system can cause side effects or inefficacy.

Moreover, some medications have precise directions for eating before, with, or after food. Adhering to food-linked instructions can aid in lowering your danger of side effects in some examples. In other cases, adherence can guarantee the impacts of a drug are not being advanced or inhibited by food.

Medication Adherence Can Prevent New or Worsening Health Problems

Failure to follow your prescriptions, or medicine nonadherence, can negatively affect your quality of life.

Every year, medicine nonadherence leads to around 100,00 preventable deaths — and it keeps individuals from living a well, happy life.

If you don’t follow your prescribed medicine routine, your treatment might not operate as it is intended. 40-50% of chronic illness treatment failure can be credited to medicine nonadherence, as per the CDC. This treatment failure can result in new health issues and/or exacerbate existing conditions.

For instance, if you don’t take your blood pressure medicine, you become at risk for long-term heart illness, stroke, heart attack, or kidney failure. Unexpected health issues like these commonly direct to complications and hospitalization. In the worst-case situation, medicine nonadherence can be fatal.

Medical Diagnostic Imaging Generate Visual illustrations of Bodyhttps://globalriskcommunity.com/profiles/blogs/medical-diagnostic-imaging-generate-visual-illustrations-of-body2020-10-22T09:52:36.000Z2020-10-22T09:52:36.000ZKBV Researchhttps://globalriskcommunity.com/members/KBVResearch

Medical Digital Imaging Systems has brought a revolution in the healthcare sector. Here is what we need to know about these systems. The increasing prevalence of chronic disease globally has led to an urgent need for diagnosis of the diseases so that appropriate treatments can be provided to the patients. At the same time, there is an increase in the demand for more innovative and advanced imaging solutions with minimal errors are the major factors that are resulting in the increase in the demand for Medical Digital Imaging Systems in healthcare sectors. Since advanced imaging techniques are able to deliver more accurate and detailed anatomical images that are very helpful in many diagnostic and radiology procedures.

Medical Digital Imaging System: what is it?

Before knowing about the Medical Digital Imaging System, we first need to understand what medical imaging is. It is a technique that is capable of generating visual illustrations of internal body parts that are further used for medical intervention and clinical diagnosis. It produces images without any invasion in the body.

Medical Digital Imaging Systems are nothing different from medical imaging. It is in fact a type of imaging system in which the images produced by the use of fast processors and through the conversion of energies arithmetically into logical signals. These signals are then converted into digital images.

Types of medical digital imaging

The major types of digital imaging that are used in the healthcare sector include ultrasound, radiography, MRI, and nuclear medicines.

Radiography

In radiography, electromagnetic radiation is used to capture the images of the internal organs. The most common example of radiography is X-ray in which a beam of high energy waves is radiated on the body. Soft tissue doesn’t absorb this beam of the wave but hard tissue does. The results obtained are transferred to X-ray films.

Ultrasound

It uses high-frequency sound waves that are responsible for reflecting off the tissues resulting in the formation of images of internal organs, muscles, and joints. The light enters the body through the skin and the image of the internal body parts is viewed with the help of electronic sensors attached to the device.

Nuclear medicines

It is the general term that is used for the medicines that use radioactive materials. These radioactive drugs that are either the swallowed or injected that travel through the body. The radiation that is produced is then detected to form an image.

Magnetic resonance imaging

In MRI, radio waves couples with magnetic fields are used to view the organs of the body. MRI scanner is used for this procedure which a large donut-shaped machine that creates powerful magnetic fields that are able to align the protons in the body.

Working in Medical Digital Imaging Systems

The medical imaging system plays an important role in the healthcare sector. It involves the use of computers for the processing of images. Many techniques and operations are required to process the captured image like image gaining, presentation storage, and communication. The image produced in this imaging system is the function that shows a measure of characteristics color and illumination on the sight of the view.

Classification of medical digital imaging

3D/4D- it is used to obtain a highly enriched image of the interior of the body. The introduction of 3D digital imaging has brought a revolution in the medical sectors. This mode is useful for taking images of blood vessels and enhanced images of the bones.

2D- it is a type of digital imaging in which image is formed in a 2-dimensional format using horizontal and vertical dimensions. 2D is most commonly used for capturing the image of long vascular segments.

Benefits of the Medical Digital Imaging Systems

It is useful in the diagnosis, identification, and treatment of a variety of diseases, and thus it plays a dynamic role in improving healthcare services. There are many advantages of using digital imaging such as faster and cheaper processing of the image, easier to store the image, it gives quick quality assessment, and well-adapted manipulation of images.

This technique is also associated with other benefits like elasticity, data storing and communication, etc. The improvement in health care policies by the government of many countries as well as the availability of medical equipment is the factors resulting in the increased adoption of medical imaging systems in hospitals.

Disadvantages of digital images

The major limitation of using Medical Digital Imaging Systems includes its incapability to resize the image with the same resolution, exploitation of copyright and it also requires a faster processor in order to manipulate the image.

The lack of helium, hostile reimbursement scenario, and higher cost of imaging modalities in developing countries are some of the big limitations on the application of the medical digital imaging system. Currently, the medical digital imaging system has a very sophisticated application. Much more advancement is needed in both hardware and software.

To sum up

The Medical Digital Imaging Systems Market has been witnessing rapid growth due to technological advancements in diagnostic imaging devices, growing prevalence of chronic diseases along with the upsurge in the aging population, increase in medical imaging procedures, and rising awareness among people for the prognosis of clinical disorders are the main factors that are estimated to improve the growth of the diagnostic imaging market in the coming years.

Thermometers are life-saving tool in the Coronavirus Attackhttps://globalriskcommunity.com/profiles/blogs/thermometers-are-life-saving-tool-in-the-coronavirus-attack2020-10-15T10:23:41.000Z2020-10-15T10:23:41.000ZKBV Researchhttps://globalriskcommunity.com/members/KBVResearch

Why Medical Thermometer is having enormous demand in the Healthcare Industry. The increasing cases of influenza, norovirus, COVID-19, malaria, dengue, and other medical conditions as well as increasing awareness about the importance of monitoring body temperature are the main factors that are driving the demand for medical thermometers.

Furthermore, the recent outbreak of COVID-19, a highly infectious disease that resulted in the pandemic. One of the symptoms of COVID-19 includes high fever so temperature screening and monitoring have become important, and there has been a sudden rise in demand for thermometers. Monitoring body temperature is the basic step in the diagnosis of many diseases as it is considered as an effective way to identify illnesses earlier to clinical diagnosis.

Medical thermometer what is it?

A medical thermometer is also called a clinical thermometer. It is used to measure the body temperature of animals and humans. In order to measure the temperature, the traditional thermometer was placed at body locations such as in the mouth, under the armpit, in the rectum, or ears. New contact-free thermometers don’t need any contact with the body rather they measure the thermal radiation of the body keeping the device away from the body.

Different types of medical thermometer

Mercury based

Analog thermometer: They are mercury-based glass thermometer. In an analog thermometer, body temperature is measured via the thermal expansion of metals. Earlier, this type of thermometer was very popular, but due to the introduction of contact-free thermometers, and increasing awareness about the harmful effects of exposure of mercury, its demand has decreased. The use of a mercury-based thermometer is avoided for young or pregnant patients.

Mercury free

Infrared Radiation Thermometer Theses thermometers are mercury-free. They usually measure the thermal radiation emitted from the forehead or the region of ears to detect the temperature of the body. It allows a touchless and quick measurement of temperature by keeping a safe distance. It also reduces the chance of infection of bacteria and viruses.

Digital thermometers: They are also called electronic thermometer. Digital thermometers measure body temperature by means of thermistors. They are quick and accurate in their results. The temperature measured is displayed on the LCD screen. Digital thermometers are safer to use and are also considered environmentally friendly. There are many other benefits of using digital thermometers such as higher accuracy, low chances of cross-infection, and easy to clean and disinfect.

Effect of COVID-19 on the demand for Medical Thermometer

The novel virus that is SARS-coV-2, is responsible for the highly infectious COVID-19 disease. The World Health Organization in March 2020 declared that the COVID-19 outbreak is pandemic. According to a report by the Worldometer, currently, more than 31 million people are suffering from this disease all across the globe leading to a global health crisis. In order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus many countries have followed a partial or complete lockdown strategy.

Since high fever is one of the symptoms of this disease, non-contact temperature assessment devices like infrared and digital thermometers are used as an initial check to see the symptoms. Because of these reasons, there is a higher demand for non-contact thermometers in the world. It is important to first compare the accuracy, convenience, suitability, and price of the different thermometers.

Advantages of using non-contact Medical Thermometer

There is no spread of infectious disease using the non-contact thermometers.

It quickly gives the result.

They are also cost-effective.

A large number of people can be evaluated in less amount of time.

It requires minimum cleaning in between the uses.

Digital non-contact thermometers give temperature values even in decimal points.

The results of the thermal assessment are very accurate.

Sum-up

The Medical Thermometer Market has been witnessing rapid growth due to the increasing prevalence of diseases like Covid-19, Influenza, Norovirus, and other medical conditions. The growing concern of individuals for self-health care management is expected to boost the demand for the medical thermometer market. In the manufacturing of medical thermometer, small-sized players are adopting technological advancements in launching new products in the market. So cost-effectiveness, accuracy, and other advantages associated with the new digital thermometers are additional factors that are driving the demand of thermometers in the market in the foreseeable period of time.

Moreover, due to COVID-19, thermal screening is needed to be done at offices, public places, and hospitals and thereby leading to an increase in the demand for infrared medical thermometers to prevent the spread of this highly contagious virus. According to WHO, medical professionals and frontline care providers are at higher risk for heat illness and COVID-19 infection all across the world therefore those professionals need to monitor their body temperature periodically. The supportive healthcare policies by the government of various countries as well as the developed healthcare market are driving the market towards growth.

How Medical Fiber Optics is improving the healthcare facilitieshttps://globalriskcommunity.com/profiles/blogs/how-medical-fiber-optics-is-improving-the-healthcare-facilities2020-09-23T09:54:38.000Z2020-09-23T09:54:38.000ZKBV Researchhttps://globalriskcommunity.com/members/KBVResearch

Here’s why Medical Fiber Optics are Making a trending in the Industry. As healthcare providers make an effort to discover biomedical instruments that are technically more advance and will make the diagnosis, checking, and treatment more efficient. There is increased use of endoscopic procedures as it is beneficial in the early diagnosis of cancer and many other chronic diseases, which in turn increasing the demand for medical fiber optics. Moreover, the growing adoption of technologically advanced products in healthcare sectors and rising awareness among the people about minimally invasive surgeries are the key factors in driving the adoption of medical fiber optics in designing instruments.

What is Medical Fiber Optics?

Before understanding what is Medical Fiber Optics, we should know what fiber optics means. Fiber optics also called optical fiber is a thin and flexible fiber made up of glass or plastic. In this fiber data, voice, images, and information are transmitted in the form of the light pulse by internal reflection. fiber optics are commonly used in telephone, television, and the internet. Medical fiber optics is not anything different from optic fiber, in fact, it is one of the application areas of the optic fiber in medicines. A bundle of such fibers is used to design biomedical instruments and devices. Medical Fiber Optics are commonly used in the imaging and illumination components of medical instruments such as endoscopy.

Types of Medical Fiber Optics

Multimode Optical Fiber

This type of optical fiber allows the propagation of more than the type of light at a given time. The core diameter of Multimode Optical Fiber is a little thicker than that of Single-Mode Optical Fiber which ranges from 50 to 60 micrometers. Due to higher thickness, there is more attenuation in them. It is suitable for short-distance runs, and cheaper in price.

Single-Mode Optical Fiber

as the name suggests, this type of fiber propagates only one type of light at a time. The diameter of the core is smaller and about 9 micrometers. Since the fiber is very thin, so there is not much attenuation.it is suitable for application at long distances but more costly than Multimode Optical Fiber.

Benefits of Medical Fiber Optics

Medical Fiber Optics has become a valuable asset in the healthcare field. As they possess various useful features and have many advantages which include the following:

They are considered very safe to use even inside the human body.

Medical Fiber Optics are resistant to electromagnetic interference.

They are non-toxic and chemically inert.

These devices are small and compact in size therefore occupy less space.

Thin and flexible so can be easily inserted in the body cavity to take images and treat the internal parts.

Medical Fiber Optics is also tolerant of high temperatures.

Application of Medical Fiber Optics

For many decades optics have been used for diagnosis and to provide therapeutic treatment of the patients. The arrival of optical fiber in the twentieth century has resulted in designing new medical devices and instruments and it brought a revolution in the healthcare sector. Manipulation of light and images taken from optical instruments help doctors to have better and improved visual examination and diagnosis of a disease.

Illumination and endoscopy

Medical Fiber Optics is most commonly used in endoscopy in which it gives improved illumination and magnification of the internal cavities of the body. It is beneficial in the detection of disease, surgical guidance, to investigate symptoms, and performing biopsies. Light possesses energy and that energy is accomplished to interact with the biological tissues and organs. Therefore it facilitates the diagnosis and analysis of the internal organs. This property is exploited in endoscopy.

Endoscopy is used in routine examinations of the colon, stomach, and esophagus. Through endoscopy, surgical tools are used for cutting and illumination to perform surgery. In endoscopy, high power lasers are used if it is required to destroy certain tissue with the used of endoscopy.

Biomedical Sensing

It is safe to measure chemical, biological, and physiological parameters of the body using Biomedical Sensing. It has a unique feature that it doesn’t interfere with other parameters and is remotely controllable in nature. Biomedical Sensing is nowadays widely used in monitoring various parameters like heart rate, blood velocity, body temperature, etc. Medical Fiber Optics are also used in the Laser Signal Delivery system.

Minimally invasive surgery (MIS)

A new trend of minimally invasive surgery (MIS) has been introduced in the healthcare sectors for performing minor surgeries. It eliminates the need to cut and painful invasion. MIS also minimizes post-surgery pain and discomfort. Fiber optics are also exploited in medical imaging, sensing devices, MRI, PET, and CT scans.

The bottom line

The Medical Fiber Optics Market has been witnessing swift growth due to the rise in the awareness about the minimally invasive surgical procedure and more adoption of the advanced technological instruments and equipment. These factors are boosting the demand for Medical Fiber Optics in the healthcare sectors. Medical Fiber Optics are widely used in endoscopy procedures that are beneficial in early diagnosis and treatment of diseases.

Nowadays with evolving technology, lasers are also used in dentistry and cosmetology, and thereby it is exploring the application of Medical Fiber Optics in biomedical sectors. Although the higher cost of medical fiber optics is likely to obstruct the market growth. However, the advantages associated with the Medical Fiber Optics in medical instruments and equipment are encouraging healthcare providers to adopt such products.

Recent Trends in the Colposcopy Technology For Different Medical Applicationhttps://globalriskcommunity.com/profiles/blogs/recent-trends-in-the-colposcopy-technology-for-different-medical2020-07-14T10:36:49.000Z2020-07-14T10:36:49.000ZKBV Researchhttps://globalriskcommunity.com/members/KBVResearch

Many new technologies have been introduced to enhance the diagnosis precision of colposcopy, objectively guide the biopsy site and assess the dysplastic condition of the epithelium. These include fluorescence spectroscopy, electrical impedance spectroscopy, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and/or variations thereof. Other technologies such as optical coherence tomography and polarimetric imaging have also been used to better define lesions. Not only have the adjunct use of technology, but also compact user-friendly tools been developed that have improved colposcopy distribution in remote areas.

All about colposcopy

Colposcopy is a medical imaging technique for the examination of the illuminated, magnified vision of the cervix as well as of the vagina and vulva. Many pre-malignant lesions and malignant lesions in these areas have discernible features that can be identified by inspection. The colposcopy procedures are done using a colposcope.

It offers a magnified view of the areas, enabling the colposcopist to visually differentiate normal from unhealthy appearing tissue and to take directed biopsies for further pathological examination. The main objective of colposcopy is to avoid cervical cancer through early diagnosis and treatment of precancerous lesions. The procedure was developed by Hans Hinselmann [de], a German surgeon, with the help of Eduard Wirths. The creation of colposcopy included research on Jewish inmates from Auschwitz.

What are colposcopes?

Colposcopes are the tools used to perform a colposcopy, a diagnostic process that illuminates and magnifies the cervix and the vaginal region. It is a common practice in obstetrics and gynecology to treat any problems or abnormalities in these large reproductive areas of the female body. Added accessories can include a camera or LCD monitor for documentation or subsequent analysis. Most colposcopes are flexible on wheeled mounts that can be arranged in any manner that is convenient for the caregiver and the patient.

Colposcopes can be customized with additional or replacement accessories to better fit every OB/GYN practice. Eyecups are plastic cases over the lenses where users look to see the diagnostic site. There are eye cups available in different sizes for better fit and comfort. Eyepieces provide magnification and customizable diopters for zoom in and out of the treatment area. Cameras can be a critical aspect of a colposcopy to monitor the outcome of a patient's medical appointment. Depending on the size of the colposcope, users have a range of camera types to choose from, some of which are attached to the device, and some of which are detachable.

Colposcopes for different medical applications:

Physical examinations

Colposcopic examination involves detailed visualization of the vulva and vagina, inspection of the cervix before and after application of acetic acid (common household vinegar), biopsy of suspicious lesions, and endocervical screening in certain people. Also the basic white light (as seen during the Pap test) and the green light are used for the colposcopy. The green filter improves the visualization of the blood vessels by making them appear darker in contrast to the underlying epithelium.

A speculum is inserted while examining the perineum, vulva, and cervix for lesions using white light and magnification of the colposcope. Some colposcopists can replicate the Pap test during the examination; however, both retrospective and prospective trials have demonstrated minimal clinical utility of replicating either liquid-based or traditional cytology at the time of colposcopy. Screening for gonorrhea and chlamydia can be required in high risk populations.

Cervical cancer screening

If a patient has any signs that indicate cancer or if your Pap test results display irregular cells, you will require a treatment called colposcopy. The colposcope is an device that sits outside the body and has magnifying lenses. This makes the doctor see up next to the surface of the cervix. Colposcopy itself is usually no more uncomfortable than any other highly speculative exam. This can be achieved safely, even if the patient is pregnant. Unlike the Pap test, it's best not to do that during the menstrual period.

Several forms of biopsies may be used to treat cervical pre-cancers and cancers. If the biopsy will completely extract all unhealthy tissue, it could be the only treatment required. For example , in the case of colposcopic biopsy, the cervix is examined with a colposcope to identify suspicious areas. A small (about 1/8-inch) part of the irregular region on the surface of the cervix is collected using a biopsy forceps. The biopsy procedure may cause mild cramping, short pain, and some slight bleeding.

Top trends that are raising the adoption of colposcopes across the medical world:

Handheld colposcopes

The handheld colposcope is experiencing a rapid demand industry-wide. This can be attributed to increasing handheld colposcope usage due to a simple interface, improved workflow, improved health facilities, superior tracking capabilities, and advanced modes. In addition, improved image contrast ratios and the benefits of each strategy are expected to maximize the market traction of this product as compared to a standard-of-care digital colposcope.

Through its advanced characteristics, which include compact scale, portability, ease of use, flexibility, and extended battery life, the system is assumed to convert the colposcopic procedure. By costing as little as most stationary colposcopes and providing capabilities for both anti-fogging and waterproofing functions, the system is best matched, regardless of their location or severity.

The rising prevalence of cervical cancer around the globe

Cervical cancer is a preventable disease. It is also curable if detected early and adequately treated. Yet it remains one of the most common cancers and the cause of cancer-related death in women across the globe. As stated by the World Health Organization, by 2030, the annual number of new cases of cervical cancer would reach up to 700,000. Until then, the annual number of deaths would also increase exponentially.

More than 85% of those affected are young of an age, are poor, or are the undereducated women who live in the world’s poorest countries. Most of these women are also mothers of young children whose survival is subsequently truncated by the premature death of their mothers. In an effort to eliminate cervical cancer as a public health problem, there has been visible political support from international and local leaders. Also, multisectoral partners are working towards the cause of coordinated cooperation. There have been effective approaches to resource mobilization.

Innovations in cervical cancer diagnostics

Cervical cancer was once a leading cause of death for American women according to the American Cancer Society (ACS). The mortality rate fell dramatically with the wider use of the pap smear test that detects improvements in the cervix to enable quicker diagnosis and more effective treatment of the disease. Over the past 15 years, however, the numbers stabilized as pap smear tests reached the limits of their precision. Females can be usually hesitant to undergo tests and to wait for analytical times. As a result, as they reach middle age and even beyond, cervical cancer continues to be a threat to women.

It can be stressful to wait for conventional pap smear analysis – for as long as three weeks, after which further testing may still be needed. Market giants aim to relieve the burden with point-of-care detection technology that will provide an immediate diagnosis. The system is contained in a sterile, disposable cover so that it can be inserted securely and easily to enter the cervix of the patient. A high-definition digital colposcope is directed to the center of the cervix by an algorithm, where the colposcope emits light and collects its reflection. The light where the cervical tissue reflects indicates the location of any cancerous or pre-cancerous lesions.

To conclude

Technological developments in the colposcopes market would promote screening for cervical cancer. This would further fuel demand development over the coming years. Duke University researchers also created a Pocket Colposcope in 2017, which reduces the need for speculum and allows self-screening.

Free Valuable Insights: Global Colposcopes Market to reach a market size of USD 638.3 million by 2026

This speculum-free colposcope enables images on a laptop or smartphone and makes cervical cancer screening more accessible to women living in low-resource areas, increasing the demand for colposcopes. In addition, government-initiated cancer prevention campaigns, equitable payment plans, and the introduction of emerging technology would dramatically fuel market growth.

Ambulance Services Are Gaining Huge Demand With Advancements In Emergency Serviceshttps://globalriskcommunity.com/profiles/blogs/ambulance-services-are-gaining-huge-demand-with-advancements-in2020-04-27T10:51:07.000Z2020-04-27T10:51:07.000ZKBV Researchhttps://globalriskcommunity.com/members/KBVResearch

With a significant rise in the number of emergency cases, the need of the hour is to transport the patients to the nearest hospital as soon as possible. Ambulance services provide an ambulance that is medically equipped and transports patients to care centers, such as hospitals. In certain cases the patient is given out-of-hospital medical treatment. Emergency services hire ambulances to respond to medical emergencies. In general they are equipped with flashing warning lights and sirens for this purpose.

They can quickly transport paramedics and other first responders to the scene, hold emergency medical equipment and transfer patients to hospital or other final treatment. Most ambulances use a van or pick-up truck based design. Others take the form of motorcycles, cars, buses, boats and planes.

What are ambulance services?

Ambulance services are the emergency response for critically injured or sick patients that also ensure that healthcare workers provide appropriate attention. Outpatient programs contribute to prompt medical care for victims of injuries or patients with chronic illnesses. Ambulance services play a significant role in the health care sector.

The ambulance services industry comprises private and public providers offering air or surface transport services to seriously ill patients, along with primary medical care. These vehicles are equipped with healthcare practitioners operating life-saving devices. For many countries, private ambulance services have emerged to provide ambulance services, particularly in rural areas that lack the necessary funds to provide free ambulance services and also due to state monetary issues.

Types of ambulance services transport:

Ground Ambulance Services

Ground transportation leads the segment because it is the most reliable and safe way to treat patients in an emergency. Its flexibility and easy availability are also expected to fuel segment growth as compared with other transport systems. Ground ambulance includes trucks for van or pick-up, car/SUV, motorcycle, bicycle, all-terrain, golf cart, and bus.

Water Ambulance Services

Ambulance boats are boats that provide emergency medical assistance and facilities to remote areas surrounded by a bodies of water. These ambulance boats are very close to the conventional ambulances and are fitted with all the necessary gadgets including ventilators, surgical equipment, a paramedics team and other necessary equipment for providing assistance to the victims. Many lifeguard vessels or lifeboats can also be used as ambulances for transporting victims or casualties in emergencies.

Air Ambulance Services

Air ambulance services is a broad concept that includes the use of air or helicopter transport to carry patients to and from healthcare facilities and accident scenes. During aeromedical evacuation or rescue operations onboard helicopter and propeller aircraft or jet aircraft, personnel provide extensive prehospital and emergency and critical care to all types of patients.

The use of air transport to provide medical evacuation on the battlefield dates back to World War I but its role was significantly expanded during the wars in Korea and Vietnam. Aircraft also began to be used by the civil emergency medical services. In particular for major emergency incidents, helicopters may carry medical care to the scene and transfer patients to medical hospitals. Fixed-wing aircraft are used for long distance transportation.

Recent trends in ambulance services industry

Advanced life support

Advanced Life Support (ALS) is a series of life-saving procedures and skills that expand Basic Life Support to further assist circulation and include an open airway and adequate ventilation (breathing). ALSs key algorithm, which is invoked when actual cardiac arrest is identified, depends on monitoring of the heart’s electrical activity on a heart monitor.

Defibrillation is applied, and medication is provided, depending on the form of cardiac arrhythmia. Oxygen is given, and endotracheal intubation may be tried to protect the lungs. The treatments effect on heart rhythm, as well as the existence of cardiac output, is periodically assessed.

Air ambulance demand rising amid the coronavirus outbreak

The outbreak of an infectious lung disease triggered by the Coronavirus has raised alarm worldwide. The virus can be transmitted between humans by contact with bodily fluids (e.g. by coughing and sneezing). Therefore, the disease is extremely contagious. A patient with suspected or confirmed coronavirus is not permitted to travel on a scheduled flight because of the high risk of contagion. For these situations, only an Air Ambulance is sufficient.

An experienced flight doctor on board an air ambulance takes care of the patient, using devices identical to the machines in a typical intensive care unit. Air ambulances are available from around the world. We can use not only the large commercial airports but smaller regional airfields as well. We can then transport the patient near the admitting hospital, so that only a short transport on the ground is necessary. An air ambulance will generally be made available on the same or the next day.

Internet of Things (IoT) in ambulance services

Emergency care is a critical field of medicine whose outcomes are determined by contextual knowledge time, quality and accuracy. Furthermore, the effectiveness of emergency treatment depends on the quality and accuracy of the information received during the emergency call and of the data obtained during the emergency transport.

Emergency doctors often lack the health records of patients and base the medical care on a set of information gathered including details given by the patient or his family. Consequently the provision of emergency treatment is more patient-centered than patient-centered knowledge. Wireless body area network and IoT (Internet of Technology) enable accurate data collection and are increasingly being used in medical applications.

Summing up

Modern ambulance today contains the most modern and advanced technologies. The medical equipment used today can easily provide hospital-like treatment to the patient when in transit and make their journey very comfortable and simple from one facility to the next. Governments have been under constant pressure to significantly improve emergency treatment, including the treatment received by ambulance services.

Free Valuable Insights: Global Ambulance Services Market to reach a market size of USD 31.8 billion by 2025

The government reports resulted in the development of guidelines in ambulance construction about the internal height of the area of patient care (to enable a caregiver to continue to care for the patient during transportation), and the equipment (and therefore weight) that an ambulance needed to carry, and many other factors.

Chemical Giants Fight on The Frontlines in The World’s Battle Against Novel Coronavirushttps://globalriskcommunity.com/profiles/blogs/chemical-giants-fight-on-the-frontlines-in-the-world-s-battle2020-04-16T16:00:00.000Z2020-04-16T16:00:00.000ZChemAnalysthttps://globalriskcommunity.com/members/ChemAnalyst

Chemical manufacturing companies are continuously coming up with concerned initiatives to assist against Coronavirus which is submitting to extreme highs with hopes of abatement. With rising number of cases, the demand for essential chemical feedstock required in the healthcare industry is showing an incredible surge, compelling the indulged companies to scale up the supply. Stressing this issue, WHO has also asked chemical companies to ramp up the production of personal protective equipment material to serve the skyrocketing demand from pharmaceutical and healthcare industries.

Visit more info: https://www.chemanalyst.com/NewsAndDeals/NewsHome

Taking this step forward, Exxon Mobile, one of the largest oil producing giants in the global market has announced increment in the production of raw materials to produce essential necessities such as gowns, masks and hand sanitizers required in medical and healthcare sectors to look after Covid-19 patients. Addressing the concern, the president of Exxon Mobile stated that the company is whole heartedly trying to assist nurses, doctors and first respondents, that are the warriors in these tough times to fulfil the high scale demand for critical protective equipments.

Chemical Pricing: https://www.chemanalyst.com/ChemicalPricing/ChecmPriceYearlyChart?Customer=False

Since specialized Polypropylene is widely used in the manufacturing of protective masks and gowns, the company has ramped up the production of Polypropylene by around 1000 per month. With this boost in production capacity, the company’s competency to assist in the production of 20 million gowns or 200 million medical masks will enhance. In addition, it has also escalated the production of Isopropyl Alcohol, a prominent feedstock utilized in manufacturing sanitizers and disinfectants. The company aims to produce medical-grade hand sanitizers up to 50 million 4-ounce bottles with this upgraded production facility. Furthermore, it is looking forward to introducing new products for health and hygiene in response to the global Pandemic. Integration, however, is not yet in its final stages. While monitoring and interpreting the trends is difficult, it is important to make decisions to recognize the advantages of these systems and to make the transition from analog to digital imaging possible.

What are medical imaging workstations?

There are 2 different types of workstations. The first type is called Workstation "thick client." Such high-performance, high-resolution workstations are where radiologists spend much of their time and make the bulk of their choices. In comparison, there are "thin client" workstations that can be found on the clinic floor, on a physician's desk or in his or her home office, or as part of a portable system most recently. Such thin client workstations have Web browsers that are specially designed.

The thick client workstations are very similar to the common platforms of gaming. The gaming devices are fitted with high-performance computing capabilities and computer graphics equipment, all powered by local software. Similar to how we use thick client workstations in radiology, the gaming systems can run autonomously. Image sets can be downloaded to these workstations and they can also be operated locally (that is, without the need for a remote host machine to control the images).

The thin client portals are display stations such as those that you may have on your office or home desk or a wireless computer, such as a Web-enabled mobile phone or personal digital support. Such thin client displays use a remote collection of host computers to provide computing services. Imaging Web services are now everywhere to be found, particularly in a modern hospital or medical center.

Different kinds of modalities:

Computed Tomography (CT)

Giants in the deep learning field are developing advanced full body technology that can use AI to process CT scans. AI-powered medical imaging technology can show any suspicious findings on the medical scan of a patient so that radiologists can examine them. The AI systems seek to provide support for radiologists who focus on areas such as the chest, abdomen, spine, and head.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

The new advancements in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology were on the software side, allowing for quicker contrast scans, significantly simplifying cardiac imaging workflows and enabling lung MR scans. In recent years, advancements in medical implant technology have significantly expanded the number of patients with these instruments, which has complicated MRI scanning of these patients. MR-conditional procedures include knee and hip replacements, spine procedures, pacemakers and cardioverter (ICD) implantable defibrillators.

Mammography

This cancer detection technology allows the breast tissue to be replicated in three-dimensions (3D), which can then be viewed across the breast as sequential slices. This new technique eliminates error and allows even dense tissue to be studied in detail. Tomosynthesis helps detect minute lung nodules and chest pathologies which can go undetected using traditional methods. This 3D imaging helps outline the anatomy of cancer in patients and more specifically assess the stage of the disease.

Medical industry trends that outline the advancements in medical imaging workstations market:

Virtual Reality & 3D Imaging

The medical imaging workstations industry is flooded with the Virtual Reality (VR) technology right now. Not only are VR and 3D imaging technologies useful for entertainment but they do have important consequences in the medical imaging industry. As amazing as MRIs and CT scans are, their presentation in 2D actually allows physicians to use their imaginations to mentally sew a complete image of the part of the 3D organ or body together. Now, modern virtual reality technologies, such as EchoPixel True 3D, have allowed radiologists or physicists to take slices of MRI images and produce a 3D image that physicians can view with 3D glasses, a VR headset, or even print using a 3D printer and special plastic.

Automated CT Scanners

The diagnostic imaging market has seen major technological developments in the field of computed tomography over the last decade, including the advent of low-dose, automated CT scanners. These instruments deliver high image quality, with increased spatial resolution and low patient and surgeon sensitivity to radiation. These advanced CT devices have a simple screen, provide ease of operation and provide minimum space requirements for affordable installation. These factors drive the acceptance of these products by health care practitioners and researchers across major global healthcare markets.

AI as a supplemental lens for medical image analysis

Over several years, Artificial Intelligence dominated session tracks and names at picture conferences and industry headlines. Although it has the potential to significantly alter medical imaging in the long term, there are currently few FDA-cleaned requirements for the use of AI in DR; and overall acceptance in the healthcare sector has been sluggish.

AI would play a role as a supplementary lens for medical image processing in the near term by detecting subtler changes in scans while reducing the preparation time for care by analyzing large quantities of data. AI also has a lot of potential to improve operational performance, freeing experts from boring and repetitive tasks. Using AI and switching to 3D imaging complement each other because the images provide a vast amount of information that could be processed by a computer and shown to the radiologist or referring doctor.

To sum up

Although several innovations influence healthcare, this year AI dominated, with a smaller emphasis on 3-D imaging and printing. Other areas like cybersecurity are also starting to appear in radiology, and the protection of patient information is also an essential subject in radiology. The medical profession is no longer following prototyped practice, diagnosis, or treatment lines. This is a revolutionary development, as it has helped to improve many medical technologies.

Free Valuable Insights: Global Medical Imaging Workstations Market to reach a market size of USD 6.2 billion by 2025

In healthcare IT, ideation has become the norm of the day. All of these variables indicate a promising growth rate in the workstation medical imaging industry. A dedicated medical imaging workstation allows for detailed analysis and diagnosis. In fact, about 11.9 million Quest customers were affected.

The compromised information could include personal data of the patients, including Social Security numbers, as well as medical and financial information. However, laboratory test results aren’t included in the breach.

What Happened?

The AMCA (American Medical Collection Agency) is a billing collection service provider and informed Quest Diagnostics that it had an unauthorized user who gained access to the AMCA system, which contained personal information that AMCA got from a variety of entities, including Quest. AMCA provides its collections services to Optum360, which is a Quest contractor. Both Optum360 and Quest are working with experts to investigate the issue.

The company also noted that it still doesn’t have much information about the data security incident at AMCA, and it doesn’t know for sure what data was compromised. However, the company no longer sends its collection requests to AMCA and won’t do so until the issue is resolved.

Quest filed an SEC filing, which revealed that the attackers gained access to the AMCA system between August 2018 and March 2019.

According to one data breach website, Gemini Advisory analysts first discovered the breach. The analysts noticed a CNP (Card Not Present) database, which had posted for sale on the dark web’s market. It figured out the data could have been stolen through the AMCA online portal. Gemini Advisory attempted to contact AMCA but received no response, so it contacted the US federal law enforcement agency.

A spokesperson for AMCA says that, upon receiving the information that there was a possible data breach from a compliance company that worked with other credit card companies, it conducted an internal investigation and took down its payments page online. The company also said it was investigating the breach with the help of an unnamed third-party forensics company.

The Quest breach targeted primarily financial data with personal information (SSNs). That kind of information is significantly more lucrative than health information, which isn’t really marketable by criminals, at least not yet. The financial information disclosed was comprehensive and included bank accounts and credit card numbers. Therefore, victims could get their identities stolen and have financial transactions completed in their name.

Users of the website or the company need to get a credit freeze and monitor their bank accounts and credit cards for any unusual activity and might want to freeze their credit reports so that no new credit lines can be taken out in their name.

Action needs to be taken now to freeze your information with the credit bureau and warn the credit bureaus that your financial information might have been compromised. Along with such, financial institutions usually have programs available to take corrective action, which can prevent your credit card or account from being used without permission if your account has been compromised.

The issue is that insurance and healthcare information doesn’t have such a centralized process, which makes it extremely tough to prevent the use of this information from someone who doesn’t have permission to use it.

The Cybersecurity evangelist of Thales, Jason Hart, chimed in with the fact that multi-factor encryption and authentication of the collected data might have saved the companies and victims from having problems.

The VP of innovation and global strategy at ForgeRock, Ben Goodman, noted that this is the second known breach for Quest in just three short years. As a public company, it could lead to a variety of serious repercussions with respect to brand reputation, shareholder trust, and stock prices. He also said that the exposed data might result in litigation. When First American Financial Corporation was breached, it took just a few days for the company to get hit with a class-action lawsuit when it exposed 885 million documents full of sensitive information just last week.

The CISO and Senior Director for Shared Assessments, Tom Garrubba, wants to see just how quickly the Office of Civil Rights (an overseer of HIPAA compliance), rushes in to get information about the breach and to determine if any negligence was there and if Quest is to blame (partially or fully)..

Through the HIPAA Omnibus Rule, business associates must handle any data with the care provided to covered entities (outsourcers). Those business associates have to provide due diligence to the covered entity.

ROBERT SICILIANO CSP, is a #1 Best Selling Amazon.com author, CEO of Safr.Me, and the architect of the CSI Protection certification; a Cyber Social and Identity Protection security awareness training program.

Why does the medical sector rely on tea tree oil benefits?https://globalriskcommunity.com/profiles/blogs/why-does-the-medical-sector-rely-on-tea-tree-oil-benefits2019-08-19T11:23:21.000Z2019-08-19T11:23:21.000ZKBV Researchhttps://globalriskcommunity.com/members/KBVResearch

Tea tree oil is being recognized as the most popular essential oils due to its wide range of uses and miraculous benefits that are as varied as curing an irritating blemish overnight or deep cleaning the sink of a bathroom.
Increasing effects of cardiovascular disease, technological developments, the increasing acceptance of medical implants, improved health infrastructure, and the growth of geriatrics have been the key driving factors for growth on the market. An increase in the proportion of the elderly population is linked to the increase in disease prevalence. The need for new treatments, implantable medical devices and other medical procedures would increase because of the ill health of the older population. Millions of patients improve their quality of life each year through surgery with implanted medical devices.

Driving Factors- In Detail

Implants are currently used for a range of applications including orthopaedics, pacemakers, cardiovascular stents, defibrillators, neural prosthetics or medication delivery systems in different parts of the body. Synchronized with the increased life span in today’s time, the occurrence of age-borne diseases has also increased. Hence, the need for implants, their long-term pharmaceutical usage, and the need for prolonging the life span of the current techniques has escalated significantly. Joint disorders stands among one of the factors responsible for the changing needs across the medical treatment.

Current estimates determine that nearly 90% of the population over 40 years of age are suffering from degenerative joint disease. In the past decade, the number of total hip replacements operation was in millions representing a 33% augment from the total operations conducted in the past. Cardiovascular diseases are another key contributing factor. Over the last two decades, coronary stents have been widely adopted in angioplasty procedures. In recent years, the number of implanted drug-eluting stents solely exceeded two million. Rare yet troublesome, sub-acute thrombosis, is a complication that can’t be eliminated by modern stent deployment approaches and antiplatelet agents. However, to eradicate any possible shortcomings, drug-eluting stents present a solution to the above problems.

Metal and Ceramic Materials for Implantable Medical Devices

Metals are the most commonly used for implants that carry the load as a material class. This includes simple wires and tubes, fixing plates for fractures and total joint prostheses for hips, knees, shoulders, ankles and so on. Metal implants are not only used in orthopaedics, but also as dentures and cardiovascular surgery. While many metals and alloys can be used in medical devices, stainless steel, cobalt-based alloys, pure titanium, titanium alloys and a number of other metals are witnessing large scale adoption.

The ceramic material used in load-bearing applications is high-purity alumina. It is used in total hip prosthesis as a bearing surface. The material is highly biocompatible and resistant to hardness, fractures, and high strength. Since new bone forms against this layer, it forms a very strong bond that can exceed the bone’s mechanical integrity.

Cardiovascular Implants

Cardiovascular implants have a promising potential to reduce the total cost of therapies for heart disease, while perpetually contributing to improved quality of life. A focus on the development of new generations of patient care products, which reduces deaths and improves patient outcomes, has resulted in a feasible healthcare environment. A wide range of conditions affecting both the heart and blood vessels are covered by cardiovascular disease. Polymer- coated cardiovascular implants and polymers are an essential component of modern medicine and will become increasingly important for the society of age related morbidity as a result of demographic changes.

Orthopaedic Implants

The largest implantable device segment of market value is orthopaedic implants. Increased prevalence of musculoskeletal degenerative disorders and changes in lifestyle will also reflect an increased risk to people pertaining to sports and exercise injuries. At the same time, as products become longer-lasting and durable, the demand for new operations rather than replacements will grow more and more from an enlarged patient base. The segment will, however, benefit from a strong base of orthopaedic implant insurance approvals as well as a stable and well-funded medical provision system and product designs which enable less invasive surgeries.

To sum up…

Many implantable medical devices, such as the pacemaker, cochlear implant, and blood pressure sensors, are being developed and improved with explosive advances in science and technology. The upcoming society with super-age conditions, which will result in more consumers for the devices, will continue with this progress in implantable medical devices. The global consumption of medical devices is boosted by numerous factors. Over the next few years, the key developmental factors are expected to arise as highly impactful drivers of the global implantable medical devices.

This is why you should keep records for all medical visits and treatments. Read everything carefully as though you’re searching for mistakes or mis-matched information. Keep records of all associated phone calls and e-mails.

But remember this: You always have a right to all of your records, so don’t let any resistance from the carrier make you give up.

If you run into problems getting any records, learn about your state’s health privacy laws.

Obtaining copies may require a fee.

Request a copy of “accounting of disclosures.” This tells who has ever received copies of your medical records, and when and why.

Look for mistakes and request corrections from the provider via certified mail.

If someone has stolen your medical identity, the provider may not want to turn over the records to you. The subject line may be urgent, such as “Your Medical Coverage May Be Terminated.” Never click links inside these e-mails or fill out forms in them; instead contact your provider via phone. However, e-mails like these are scams; the thief knows if he sends 50,000 such e-mails out with his special software, a predictable percentage of recipients will “see” themselves in the message.

A one-ring phone call may be a thief who just obtained your medical records to see if your number is legitimate. So let’s look at this in more detail:

If a collection agency contacts you, request they provide information immediately; promptly contact your provider and carrier.

Examine your credit report to see if it’s plummeted due to unpaid medical bills. When it comes to identity theft, this is especially true. The more you know about identity theft, the better prepared you will be to prevent it from happening to you. Here are some commonly asked questions about identity theft.

What is identity theft?

Identity theft is when a person pretends to be you to access money, credit, medical care, and other benefits. They acquire your identity by stealing and using your personal information like government ID number or bank account number. Once they have this information, identity thieves can really wreak havoc on your life; for example, they can clear out your bank account. They can also impersonate you in order to get a job or commit a crime. It can take a long time to clean up the mess.

Does identity theft only have to do with stealing money or credit?

No, financial identity theft, using your personal information to access your money or credit, is not the only type of identity theft, although it is the most common. There are other kinds of identity theft identity theft. Medical identity theft is when someone uses your information to receive medical care. Criminal identity theft is when someone takes over your identity and assumes it as his or her own. They can then give your name to law enforcement officers and voilà—you have a criminal record.

What are some things I can do to protect my identity online?

Be choosy. Be careful when sharing personal information online. Just because a website is asking for your information doesn’t mean it’s necessary to provide it to them. Ask who wants the information and why. Also, limit the amount of information you share on social media. Does everyone need to know the year you were born?

Think twice. Use caution when clicking on links and opening email attachments. If the link or attachment is from someone you don’t know, don’t open it.

Use secure Wi-Fi. When shopping or banking online, make sure you are using a secure wireless connection.

Permanently delete files from your PC. Putting your files in the recycle bin isn’t enough. Your device will still have the files and therefore, are accessible to identity thieves. Use security software, like McAfee LiveSafe™ service, that includes a digital shredder to make sure those files are truly wiped from your PC.

Install security software. Make sure all your devices have comprehensive security software like McAfee LiveSafe that protects all your PCs, Macs, tablets and smartphones.

What are things I can do to protect my identity offline?

Shred. Use a cross-cut shredding machine, or scissors to shred old credit card statements, offers, receipts, etc., to prevent dumpster divers from obtaining your information and creating accounts in your name.

Have a locked mailbox. This will keep thieves from stealing your mail, especially bank statements and credit card offers.

Secure your files. Get a fire-proof safe to store sensitive documents including credit cards you hardly use.

Keep an eye on your bank and credit card statements. Look for questionable activity.

Be careful when using ATMs. When you insert your ATM card into a compromised machine or run your credit card through a phony card reader, you could become a victim of skimming. Skimming is where a hacker illegally obtains information from the magnetic strip on the back of your credit or ATM card. This information can then be used to access your accounts or produce a fake credit card with your name and details on it.

How do I know if my identity has been stolen?

This list is not comprehensive but gives you a good idea on what to look out for.

You receive a bill for a credit card account that, though in your name, is not yours. This probably means a thief opened the account in your name.

You’re no longer receiving your usual snail mail or email statements. Contact the issuer to find out why.

Unfamiliar purchases on your credit card, even tiny ones (crooks often start out with small purchases, and then escalate). Challenge even a $4 purchase.

You receive a credit card or store card without having applied for one. If this happens, immediately contact the company.

Your credit report has suspicious information, like inquiries for credit that you didn’t make.

Collectors are calling you to collect payments you owe, but you owe nothing.

Your credit score is high (last time you checked), but you were denied credit for a loan or new credit card. A thief can easily ruin a credit rating.

If my identity is stolen, what should I do?

Finding out that your identity has been stolen can be stressful. First, take a deep breath then follow these initial steps.

Contact your local or national law enforcement agency. File a report that your identity has been stolen.

Call your bank and credit card companies. Notify them of fraudulent activity. They may be able to reimburse you for any money lost or close any unauthorized accounts.

Check with credit reference agencies. Ask them to set up a fraud alert. Also, check to see if anyone has tried to get credit using your name.

Keep records. Keep track of all conversations and paperwork, the more detailed the better. Organize your data into one centralized place. This can be used as evidence for your case and can help you resolve the mess that identity theft can create.

To learn more about how you can protect yourself from identity theft, check out the Intel Security Facebook page or follow @IntelSec_Home on Twitter.

Robert Siciliano is an Online Security Expert to McAfee. In healthcare, Risk Management seeks out errors with the potential to cause human harm. Risk Management consists of identifying, evaluating, and controlling the risk of these potential errors through a variety of quality control measures that become your medical practices’ Quality Control Plan. Risk Management is defined in ISO 14971 as the “systematic application of management policies, procedures, and practices to the tasks of analyzing, evaluating, controlling and monitoring risk.”1

For some healthcare professionals this is a well-known and commonly used process; however for others this may
be an area where knowledge is limited. The more you know about the practices in your facility, the more you can ensure they are compliant with all applicable regulations. However, you are not expected to do it alone. The role of Risk Management professionals in Healthcare is mainly one of monitoring to ensure compliance,
but should also include education.

Education is the best way to ensure compliance, and reduce potential sources of error. Maya Angelou often quoted “when you know better, do better.”2 Personnel who write, follow, monitor, and enforce the policies and procedures in your facility are not only those who are involved in direct patient interactions but also those involved in the collection, storage, and transport of patient specimens to those who process claims, enter data and update medical records. These are the key people to engage in Risk Management activities. There must be a clear and open dialogue regarding not only who does what but why they are doing it that way. By taking the steps necessary to ensure that all parts of your facility or practice are running smoothly, you can help ensure patient safety and excellence in this critical component of patient care.

What areas of challenge have you faced in terms of Risk Management monitoring, enforcement or compliance?

We trust that this blog will be a resource to you and if you have any questions or would like to leave a comment we will most certainly try to respond and provide helpful suggestions to improve patient care.
