Job Description

  • Knowledge in credit management and collection and a background in finance with ability to understand and analyse financial statements is essential.
  • Working knowledge of systems such as SunGard or Credit Point is desired.
  • Strong business partnering with the commercial team to routinely visit customers as part of the identification and monitoring of risk.
  • A high degree of initiative, sound judgment and assertiveness, strong communication and negotiation skills, and at least an intermediate knowledge of excel.
  • A high level of mobility to perform the visits both in the UK and Ireland.
  • Interaction with the European Credit Manager will require frequent travel to the European regional headquarters in Luxembourg.
  • To maximise the candidate's growth potential the candidate should be able to relocate and fluency in French is desirable. There is an expectation that the Credit Manager will be visiting clients on a daily basis with members of the sales team.
  • Looking at the accounts and identifying adverse signs of credit risk and regularly monitor risk with existing and new customers within Guardian Industries.
  • The ability to effectively communicate concerns/issues on credit limits with the sales team and customers and in particular when there are difficult situations with customers, the Credit Manager would need to be able to resolve them effectively and quickly.
  • The Credit Manager would initially be working with the Plant Manager monitoring payments coming in and also with the Shared Service centre in Luxembourg with allocating payments.
  • Flexibility and mobility to visit clients on a regular basis both in the UK and Internationally is a massive part to the role and assessing risk in both locations is crucial in developing and implementing new comprehensive and collections systems.
  • Work closely with the European Credit Manager to improve the existing credit facilities against Guardian's risk framework.
  • Suggestions of improvements on existing process and systems would be beneficial as although this is not a short term goal it would be something that a successful Credit Manager would have been involved in.

 

The Successful Applicant

 

Key criteria includes:

  • High level of integrity and compliance focused
  • Commercially minded individual-who would look to avoid any bad debts
  • Ability to create value through various methods with a longer term vision for the wider business in both risk and revenue
  • The ability to work with outside Sales Managers and accompany them on client visits in order to identify and monitor potential risks to the business
  • A finance background within credit management would be ideal
  • Need to be flexible where they would be based, mobility is a huge element to the role and will require frequent travel both UK bound and internationally.
  • Knowledge of the systems Sunguard and Credit point is desirable
  • Diversity and experience in a variety of organisations
  • A candidate from an audit background would not be ideal.
  • A strong character-who has experience developing relationships. The ideal candidate will not just be sales figures driven but be able to adapt to the situation/client (i.e. different businesses in different locations
  • They need to have resilience. This is a standalone position and there are strong characters not only in the sales team but also in the plant, that already have established relationships with clients. Building up a new relationship with the team and clients as well as assessing the risk and compliance elements will be important going forward. There needs to be the right balance between revenue vs risk within this role that will only work with strong relationships.
