What are the main things to take care of when travelling to Lagos, Nigeria?

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the great recent postings. I find them very useful and to the point. I would like to ask you what is your advice on business travelling to Lagos, Nigeria. I've never been in that part of the world and from the reports that I get , this is not a very save place.

    Thanks for the note and the feedback. Appreciated. 

     

    You're right, Nigeria is in the top dozen "dangerous" locations for business travellers. No one should be travelling there without a plan and support resources. All stages of your itinerary should be planned well in advance and you need to have someone/support company assist you along the route. 

     

    This means:

    • Being met at the airport upon arrival. 
    • Escort to hotel
    • Hotel recommended and checked in advance
    • Emergency call and support access
    • Possibly even onsite security at your accomodation
    • escort and support for any internal travel
    • secure vehicle and driver for all road travel
    • Continued monitoring and awareness as to what is taking place in the country and city that will impact your travel too
    • A plan and capacity to respond to routine and emergency medical situations
    • Reduced personal security exposure (where to eat, what to wear, how to secure valuables, scams, etc)
    • all the same for the reverse trip back to the airport and up to departure
