To provide strategic analysis and policy advice on Iraq and ISIL to Middle East and North Africa Directorate in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and customers across Whitehall. The analyst should also act as a gateway to external (think tanks/academic) expertise and ensure that it is fed into the policymaking process.

 

You will be a member of Middle East and North Africa Research Group (MENARG) part of the FCO’s Research Analyst cadre. MENARG provide research and analysis for the FCO’s Middle East and North Africa Directorate, other FCO policy departments and customers across Whitehall. Our material is regularly read by ministers, and our knowledge is deployed to support cross-Whitehall analysis.

 

Research Analysts have a lot of autonomy and there is a great mix of long- and short-term work across a broad spectrum of issues, supporting Ministers and FCO officials at all levels. The job gives you the chance to build a network of contacts outside government in think tanks and academia, to bring external expertise into the FCO and to share your own knowledge and feel this this has had a direct impact on policy formulation.
