Daniele Cosulch CEO Optimumcomplexity.com We work in 7 industries with more than 70 clients to measure complexity of their systems. We built a complexity chip with the Department of Defense and since 4 years we are working in finance. Background: Our company Optimum uses Quantitative Complexity Theory (“QCT”), to measure the risk of single or multiple components of any system. In finance, the components could be assets in a portfolio or the individual trading desks on a trading floor. Our methodology offers an alternative risk-assessment tool to the traditional linear-based tools used by most risk managers. To achieve this, we use proprietary QCT [model free] analytics to extract information relating to all linear and non-linear relationship between the tradeable components of a system. This provides a detailed “complexity map” or map of the interdependencies of all variables and therefore a measure of “Fragility” and “Resilience” with respect to each components ability to withstand market shocks. We can precisely measure this by determining the Complexity and associated “Critical Complexity”, of all inputs to the system. That is, the closer Complexity comes to its Critical-Complexity, the more Fragile, and less Resilient, the system. Optimum’s Partner and Chief Technology Officer, Dr. Jacek Marczyk, developed QCT in 2003 and has successfully used this technology in many different industries to evaluate risk. Working with global organisations such as AUDI, BMW, EADS, SAIC, US Army and US Navy, Intesa, GE, Boston Scientific to name but a few, QCT has been used to identify the sources of fragility and concomitant drivers of Resilience, which has enabled us to profile and monitor [in real time] the aggregate risk of any system. QCT is a proven concept to the extent that we are finalising the guidelines for the “Measurement of Complexity” as an ISO Standard in 2019. Our technology has also been integrated into a dedicated chip by the US Department of Defence for military applications. https://ontonixqcm.wordpress.com/2018/03/06/the-complexity-chip-early-warning-system-for-complex-products/ In asset management, QCT has enabled us to measure the complexity of any number of securities on a daily basis and use this information to construct portfolios that offer superior performance. Since May 2017, and under the stewardship of our CIO, Richard Tarvin, Optimum is now trading a number of investment portfolios using proprietary capital. In all cases, asset selection and risk management are derived from the power of QCT analytics. www.optimumcomplexity.com www.ontonix.com
