My major skills are in the areas of statistics, GIS, and the interactions between them, such as spatial modeling. My leadership experience was developed in the Marine Corps where I was both an officer, and a Marine Aviator. I learned the value of working with everyone, since in aviation, everyone has a hand in maintaining or flying aircraft. I learned the value of team work and the value of learning from all members of the team. Critical thinking and analytic reasoning skills come from both my graduate education and working with a number of very skilled practitioners. I was an early user of 3 dimensional mapping in the telecom industry and had some influence in the software development. In its early development, both data and software was difficult to access and use. At TI we borrowed from the defense side of the house until commercial software became available. The Navy Flight School really brought home the value of education, and as I transitioned from the Marines, I attended graduate school and continued to attend part time for a number of years after earning a graduate degree. I focused on Economics and statistics courses, and moved on to GIS. As I watch the continuing development those three areas, I see the need to remain current, and spend time updating my skills.
