I am an Account Executive with SynerComm. SynerComm is a VAR in the IT Security space both as a reseller of best of breed solutions and as a provider of IT assurance services such a penetration testing, risk assessments, and other audits and tests aimed at helping organizations maintain IT security. I have been in IT security since 1997 and have witnessed a lot of changes. At one point a firewall was like the Great Wall of China protecting networks. Now it is only a speed bump for hackers on the way in. As networks, applications and the Internet have evolved so to has the "security complexity". Today the cyber defenses need to be customized, no longer do one or a few sizes fit for everyone. The attack vectors and required defenses are beyond the grasp for the average organization that is struggling to maintain competitiveness and the bottom line. With technical staffs being downsized generally security is back burned until an event occurs. Organizations can't afford to be proactive yet should not gamble with being reactive.
