After many years of working with the Local Government, in April 2012, I decided to take the extensive experience that I had gained in emergency planning and management, organisational resilience, stress and crisis management and, most importantly, business continuity to establish my own consultancy, helping businesses to deal with these issues in their various guises. I have recently had the opportunity to share my experience (emergency planning and crisis management, in particular) with a number of businesses – particularly those requiring emergency planning due to issues such as flooding. These issues required a high degree of guidance with a focus on business continuity management, recovery planning, community risk assessment and provision of training in emergency management for senior officers and elected members, which is why a resilience consultancy such as John Hodkinson Consultancy was approached. Given the nature of the projects, a degree of personal and executive coaching was also required to ensure that, once my work was complete, the businesses could continue to adapt and make use of the techniques and strategies regarding emergency planning and organisational resilience that I had passed on. I am now sharing this experience with smaller organisations and individuals to help improve their ability to face up to and recover from the unexpected.
