My name is José Carlos Cavalcanti and I am Associate Professor of Economics at the Department of Economics of the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) (Pernambuco, Brazil) and I also teach Economics at the Center of Informatics of my university. I´got a Civil Engineering undergraduate degree from the UFPE (Pernambuco/Brazil), a MSc degree on Urban and Regional Planning from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), and a PhD degree on Economic History from the Manchester University (Manchester, England). My research focuses on technology (particularly information and communication technologies) and innovation economics. I have several years of experience in government positions and undertake consultancy work.
