Richard Rupp, CPCU is an internationally recognized author and lecturer on insurance and risk management. He began his insurance career in 1961 with the Pacific Fire Rating Bureau and has worked over the span of his career as a risk management consultant working for corporate clients, as well as in executive capacities for major insurance brokers and insurance companies. During his years with Marsh & McLennan, his colleagues dubbed him “The Professor” as he workded with a Marsh unit based in New York that developed many of the risk management concepts currently in use today. Dick served on three Marsh special task forces that sought to resolve the problems of lack of industry capacity, the medical malpractice and products liability crises. He established the first captive insurance company out of the L.A.Office of Marsh. He also developed that office’s first construction Wrap-Up programs. With two other industry executives, Dick formed Jemark, a captive formation and management firm. They formed eight captives for leading California firms such as Fleetwood Enterprises, Sambo’s Restaurants, and an auto warranty captive for Kelly Blue Book Later Dick joined Continental Insurance Companies as the Regional VP for Continental Risk Services. He worked directly with John B. Ricker, Jr., Continental’s Chairman on Fortune 500 Accounts and Special Projects. During this period of time Dick, was one of the principal writers and editor of Continental’s Circle Agents Insurance & Risk Management Manuals. Dick was VP-Risk Management for California Casualty Management Company, where in 1996 he developed one of the first EPLI Programs to be jointly marketed through the California Employers Group and the California Manufacturers Association. This program was sold to Professional Indemnity Agency, which was purchased by Houston Casualty Company.
