What Is the AI Cyber Security Market?

The AI cyber security market covers software, hardware and services that use machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing and generative AI to detect, investigate and respond to cyber threats. It also includes tools that protect AI models and agents themselves.

The market is moving from signature-based tools and rule-driven correlation toward behavior-based detection and agentic security operations. In an agentic model, AI agents triage alerts, collect evidence and recommend or execute response actions under analyst supervision. A second shift is the rise of security for AI, which covers model scanning, shadow AI discovery, prompt-injection defense and runtime control of autonomous agents.

AI Cyber Security Market Size, Share and Forecast

The market was valued at USD 31 billion in 2025 and is expected to reach USD 37.8 billion in 2026. IGTPS projects USD 185.6 billion by 2034, a CAGR of 22.0% for 2026 to 2034. The study period runs from 2021 to 2034.

North America is the largest region, holding 38% of the market in 2025. Asia-Pacific held 26% and is the fastest-growing region. Software is the largest component, while services are the fastest-growing. Network security is the largest security type, and threat detection is the largest application.

Government frameworks are shaping demand. The NIST Cyber AI Profile (NIST IR 8596), released as a preliminary draft in December 2025, gives organizations a common structure for securing AI systems, using AI for cyber defense and countering AI-enabled attacks. It builds on the NIST Cybersecurity Framework 2.0 and the AI Risk Management Framework, and it is already influencing procurement checklists, vendor roadmaps and internal audit plans in regulated industries.

Key Market Trends and Developments

Agentic AI and Autonomous Security Operations

Security operations centers are replacing manual alert triage with AI agents that gather evidence, enrich alerts with threat intelligence and close routine incidents without waiting for an analyst. Human teams supervise outcomes and handle escalated cases. This shortens response times and reduces the fatigue caused by large volumes of low-value alerts.

The DARPA AI Cyber Challenge concluded at DEF CON in August 2025, with Team Atlanta winning the USD 4 million grand prize. Competing systems identified 54 unique synthetic vulnerabilities in the final round, and four of the seven systems were released as open source for cyber defenders. This signals that autonomous vulnerability repair is nearing practical use.

Natural-Language Investigation and Open Data Formats

Vendors are pairing large language models with their own telemetry to offer natural-language investigation, automated detection engineering and guided remediation across endpoint, identity and cloud. Open data formats such as the Open Cybersecurity Schema Framework let these models reason over logs from tools made by different suppliers.

Platform Consolidation

Platform suppliers are bundling AI agents into existing subscriptions, which raises the entry bar for stand-alone point products. Specialist vendors respond through partnerships, integrations and acquisitions. Buyers increasingly favor suppliers that can show shorter investigation times and fewer false positives during proof-of-value trials.

Security for AI

Enterprises are deploying language-model applications and autonomous agents faster than they can govern them. This is creating demand for shadow AI discovery, model testing and runtime guardrails.

Market Growth Drivers

Rising AI-Enabled Cyberattacks

Attackers use generative AI to shorten the time between first access and damage. Static rules and signature tools cannot keep pace, so enterprises are adding machine-learning detection that learns normal behavior and flags deviations in real time.

Expanding Attack Surfaces

Cloud migration, remote work, API growth and connected devices have multiplied the identities and endpoints that security teams must monitor. Analysts face millions of daily events while hiring remains difficult. Automation that filters noise and ranks genuine threats has moved from a nice-to-have feature to a core budget priority.

Regulatory Pressure

The EU NIS2 Directive and the US Securities and Exchange Commission cyber disclosure rules require faster detection, clearer escalation and documented response. These obligations bring board-level attention to security outcomes and favor tools that keep audit-ready records of every action.

A Clear Financial Case

IBM’s Cost of a Data Breach Report 2025 put the global average breach cost at USD 4.44 million. Organizations that used AI and automation extensively across security operations saved USD 1.9 million per breach and shortened the breach lifecycle by 80 days.

Market Restraints and Challenges

  • Trust in automated decisions: Teams need bounded autonomy settings and approval steps before AI agents contain incidents on production systems.
  • Integration with existing tools: Value depends on data quality and on working across tools from different suppliers, which is why open standards matter.
  • Skills and tuning: Organizations struggle to tune models, supervise AI agents and respond to escalations around the clock.
  • Explainability: Regulated buyers in finance, healthcare and government need audit trails and transparent model behavior, which general-purpose tools often lack.
  • Platform lock-in versus point products: Bundled suites pressure specialist vendors, while buyers must weigh convenience against depth in a single use case.
  • Data residency: Sovereignty rules push regulated organizations toward architectures that process data locally and share only limited signals with the cloud.

Market Opportunities and Future Outlook

Securing AI Models, Agents and Data Pipelines

The security-for-AI layer is still early, so spending per customer has ample room to expand as deployments move from pilots to production. ETSI published EN 304 223, the first globally applicable European Standard setting baseline cybersecurity requirements for AI models and systems. It defines 13 principles across five lifecycle phases, giving vendors a common reference and buyers a procurement benchmark.

Managed AI-Driven Security Operations

Mid-sized organizations that lack in-house analysts represent an untapped service opportunity. Providers can bundle AI detection with round-the-clock human response and charge predictable subscription fees, earning recurring revenue as automation absorbs routine work.

Explainable Security for Regulated Sectors

Vendors that design explainability into detection models and align products with frameworks such as OWASP guidance and MITRE ATLAS can win long-term contracts that general-purpose tools struggle to secure.

The outlook points to steady growth through 2034, with services, cloud security and security operations automation among the fastest-growing areas.

A question related to classification of instruments between trading and banking book.

We have an interesting question from one of our members.       "We usually perform OTC FX transactions with clients backed-to-back on the market (with Banks). Now we are going to perform a FX swap (i.e. Spot + forward) JPY/EUR for the Bank account for 1 week at the longest. The purpose is to get EUR place @ CB for LCR compliance purpose (no trading purposes). Bank's Management think that this should be considered as a trading position and therefore be classified within the Bank's trading book.…
