Changing Attitudes Toward Hair Care

Conversations about hair loss are more open than before, partly because of social media and wider acceptance of preventive care. People are seeking help earlier and prefer routines they can maintain at home.

Scalp health has become a central theme. Brands position cleansers, exfoliants and treatments as foundations for healthy growth, borrowing language and ritual from skincare.

Product Innovation

Formulators are exploring peptides, botanical actives, growth-supporting vitamins and delivery systems intended to improve ingredient penetration. Combination approaches that pair topical products with oral supplements are gaining attention.

Clinical validation separates credible products from hopeful claims. Brands that publish study results, define realistic timelines and provide usage guidance can build trust in a category where patience is required.

Personalization and Digital Tools

Online consultations, scalp analysis tools and tailored regimens allow brands to connect with shoppers at the point of concern. Telehealth platforms have also expanded access to prescription options, creating partnerships between consumer brands and clinical providers.

Data from these interactions helps companies refine messaging, identify unmet needs and improve retention.

Distribution Landscape

Pharmacies, e-commerce platforms, salons and specialty retailers all serve this category. Professional endorsement from dermatologists or trichologists strengthens credibility, while subscription programs help brands support the long usage cycles that hair growth demands.

Demographic breadth is another opportunity. Men, women and aging consumers all participate, and product messaging must reflect different causes of hair thinning and varied expectations.

Challenges

  • Slow visible results that can lead to churn
  • Regulatory scrutiny of efficacy claims
  • Market saturation with similar-looking products
  • Consumer skepticism after past disappointments

Business Implications

  • Brands: Set honest timelines and support users with education.
  • Healthcare partners: Collaborate on responsible access to clinically supported options.
  • Retailers: Organize assortments by concern and severity for easier navigation.
  • Investors: Prioritize evidence-backed innovation and strong retention metrics.

Conclusion

Hair growth products are evolving from simple cosmetic aids into science-informed regimens supported by digital engagement. Companies that combine credible evidence, realistic expectations and personalized support can earn loyalty in a segment defined by long-term commitment and emotional significance.

A question related to classification of instruments between trading and banking book.

We have an interesting question from one of our members.       "We usually perform OTC FX transactions with clients backed-to-back on the market (with Banks). Now we are going to perform a FX swap (i.e. Spot + forward) JPY/EUR for the Bank account for 1 week at the longest. The purpose is to get EUR place @ CB for LCR compliance purpose (no trading purposes). Bank's Management think that this should be considered as a trading position and therefore be classified within the Bank's trading book.…
