Joe A. Waser was born in Switzerland and is fluent in German, French and English. Following his 3-year business base-training by means of an apprenticeship with a Swiss Bank in Lucerne, Joe studied and worked in London (UK). In his first job back in Geneva, he advanced to Division Head Commercial Operations with the local branch of an American Bank. This motivated him to complete an MBA program in the United States.
Subsequent to his graduation (with distinction, MBA with a major in International Business Finance) he accepted an Officer position with Citibank in Switzerland, as EB responsible for its 3 branches (Zurich, Lausanne and Geneva). The extraordinary development of this new area of electronicbanking in the early 80’s let him back to London, where he spent over 4 years in advising internationally active corporations and financial institutions in cash, liquidity and financial risk management matters. Prior to being put in charge of the bank’s Global Financial Management Consulting Unit in London, Joe was nominated for a 1-year secondment to the World Bank, (to lead the treasury part of the Finance Department restructuring which the World Bank sponsored, for the largest mining company at the time in Africa).
In the late 80’s, UBS hired Joe to build its International Treasury Management business unit. 5 years later he accepted a position with JP Morgan comprising financial product development and consultative marketing support in Zurich, Paris, London and Brussels. Subsequent to the bank’s closing down of these business activities, Joe was hired by PricewaterhouseCoopers as Senior Manager for its International Risk Management Services Group in Switzerland and Germany.
