My name is Dr. Michail Chalaris, Associate Professor of Chemistry at Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) and Director of the MSc programme in Quality, Safety, Security, Health and Environmental Management. With a scientific background in chemistry and a professional career spanning over three decades across academia, civil protection, industrial safety and policy-making, I focus on risk management, hazard assessment, crisis response, and occupational and environmental safety in high-stakes environments.
I am a former Lieutenant General of the Hellenic Fire Service, having led key national reforms in labour inspection and disaster response. I currently coordinate or serve as scientific lead in multiple international R&I projects (Horizon Europe, Erasmus+, Interreg, UCPM), mobilizing over €15M in funding with focus on CBRN preparedness, resilience innovation, green chemistry, and industrial safety in chemical and energy sectors.
