ATAL Tinkering Labs (ATL) are dedicated workspaces where students can give shape to their ideas through hands-on do-it-yourself approach. ATLs enable students to work with tools and equipment to create prototypes and working models, learning basic STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) concepts in the process.
. Students have access to all the tools, materials and resources they need to explore, discover, invent and create. The ATLs are also places where working together to solve problems is encouraged. The space at the Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur (IIT-Jodhpur) will have facilities for electronics and programming, mechanical assembly, carpentry and woodworking, 3D printing and computer-aided design, chemical synthesis and basic chemistry experiments.

The space is designed to enable the student community to work on their own projects, open-ended research and novel ideas. Students can visit ATLs at their leisure to tinker, invent, invent and create. Students can pursue their interests in STEM by working with other students in the community. This initiative starts with a pilot over a period of two years and will gradually be implemented across the country.
The ATAL Tinkering Labs will be open to schools and students from the region. The idea is to build a community of tinkerers, where the student community can work together to solve problems and pursue their interests in STEM. The ATAL Tinkering Labs will have a dedicated team of mentors who will guide and support the students in their journey of exploration and discovery.
The ATAL Tinkering Labs will be equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and resources that will enable the students to work on their projects and pursue their interests. The ATAL Tinkering Labs will be open to all students from Class VI to Class XII.
