The U.S. Tax Court Calendar Call Pro Bono Program provides counseling to self-represented taxpayers seeking advice in the area of tax law at calendar call sessions of the U.S. Tax Court conducted in New York. Self-represented taxpayers are advised by volunteers while appearing pro se before the U.S. Tax Court. Volunteers may be asked to consult with pro se petitioners regarding the merits of their cases and evaluate any settlement proposals from the Internal Revenue Service, act as a communicator or mediator between the parties in an effort to assist in resolving the case and provide procedural advice to pro se petitioners who decide to proceed to trial.
Information for Volunteers & Observers
The session begins at 10:00 AM and is expected to run until approximately noon. Volunteers and Observers should arrive at the court (Rooms 206/208, Jacob K. Javits Federal Building, 26 Federal Plaza) and check in with Stephen Lessard no later than 9:45 AM. Please allow sufficient time to clear the building’s security screening.
NYCLA will be hosting a small lunch immediately following the calendar call in the Petitioner’s conference room. NYCLA has extended invitations to Respondent’s counsel and the court to join us.
Steve Lessard will be sending emails to the NYCLA volunteers when we know the needs for each calendar. However, PLEASE feel free to attend the calendar, observe and attend the NYCLA lunch.
