When I interview CEOs and other executives they bemoan the fact that it is so difficult to promote competent people into positions of management. This is especially true for those whose professions fall into the categories of STEM. It is also true in accounting departments and other areas where the skills are highly detailed.

Unfortunately, our school system has significantly reduced the amount of time spent on so-called “soft skills” because of the increase in focus on STEM. Emotional Intelligence is not developed – or not developed adequately.

It is very helpful to provide these talented people with an instrument (an emotional intelligence test) that enables them to learn about themselves and to choose to develop strategies that will increase their emotional intelligence (social, emotional, psychological awareness.)

WHY SHOULD YOU ATTEND

If you are at all interested in your personal/professional growth – this emotional intelligence training will give you new insights into yourself. If you are in management, or hoping to be promoted into management, this course will not only provide you with tips on how to develop interpersonal skills, it will help you manage those you develop.

AREAS COVERED

What is Emotional Intelligence?

Emotional Intelligence is a set of emotional and social skills that establish how well we perceive and express ourselves, develop and maintain social relationships, cope with challenges and engage in life in an effective and meaningful way. Since some of the smartest people I know lack EI (or its measurement on tests EQ) I am sharing several of my observations and experiences with them.

One can be brilliant and successful professionally while at the same time struggling to be socially accepted.

This course explores several aspects of Emotional Intelligence/Emotional Quotient and offers enough descriptions to enable the listener to self-identify and decide which of the elements needs self-improvement. It is also a useful tool for management in its quest to be as useful as possible to the people who report to them.

We explore the different aspects of Emotional Quotient and how different tests describe and measure them. We identify specific aspects and how they manifest themselves in real people and we learn to recognize ways in which our EI can be improved. Finally we discover techniques for developing emotional intelligence and some of the measurement tools in common usage.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

A greater understanding of how you perceive yourself and others, your emotional intelligence and ability to relate to others.
