Today's institutions are more diverse than ever. Diversity includes not just race and ethnicity, but also other areas of difference such as age, gender, sexual orientation, economic status, and abilities. Discrimination, racism, sexism, ageism, homophobia, and other forms of prejudice are pervasive in our society. It is essential to leverage the differences, strengths, and values of every member of our communities to advance inclusiveness and increase success and productivity.
This workshop emphasizes the importance of cultural responsiveness, diversity, and inclusiveness, and provides practical strategies for fostering engagement and empowering all members of your institution. You will gain insight into your own current values and evaluate your perceptions and perspectives about those who are different from you. You will identify beliefs, emotions, and/or behaviors that may interfere with interpersonal interactions. You will identify preliminary strategies to foster engagement and empowerment and advance inclusiveness.
