Would like to have suggestions on different innovative and effective means of foster ethical culture among employees of any organisation.

I am sharing activities that we are doing :

1. A book of code of ethics is provided to each employee. It contains the code of ethics of the company as well as some ethical dilemmas. Different techniques are given there to educate employee about how to handle the dilemmas.

2. Articles are given in monthly magazines on the ethics related topics.

3. Ethics hotlines is established and employees and the trade partners, vendors are encouraged to use it.

4. Training is given to all white collar employee on the code of conduct on yearly basis and there code of ethics is explained with different case studies along with repercussions thereof.
Ethical dilemmas are also discussed with help of case studies.

LOOKING FORWARD FOR SOME INNOVATIVE IDEAS

THANKS & REGARDS

  • In addition to the Code of Ethics, have a Fraud Policy which details how a detected or suspected fraud case will be dealt with. Every employee should be aware of the existence and contents of this policy.
  • Lakshmi

What we can do is to seggregate employees based on different departments and get them trained from the past employees from different department, as they are basically aware of the risk of their department. Once that done deseggregate them and let them share the learning with themselves and let them compare the firm wide risk management rather department wise n to analyze what can be company's concern.

    Manish

  • Hi Manish,

This is a great idea. But i faced a challenge while using it once in a training secession that Irrespective of the culture prevailing at the company, Employees put their departmental concern ahead of the company's concern as a whole and normally do not ready to share dilemmas or different issues outside the departments.
  • Thanks Manish. I like your idea. If in the intranet emloyees can gives cases of how they faced ethical dilemmas and found solutions, it will greatly help. Employees catch on from fellow employees of thier department faster than the risk managers.

    Sonia
  • I like Sonia's suggestion. One more thing we can do is that we can potrayed the contribution of employess through different role plays along with the case studies based on past industry examples.

    What you guys said?

    Manish
  • Hi Lakshman,

How about creating some web-based games from the studies and getting employees to play them.

    Kind regards,

    Sonia

If risk management is about decision making, are current risk management solutions irrelevant?

Now that the updated COSO and ISO risk management standards emphasize a connection to enterprise objectives and decision making, does this mean ERM and GRC solutions focused on risk registers and regulatory compliance are missing the true value of risk management? Will current risk management solutions evolve to integrate more decision support functionality or will standalone prescriptive analytics and other technology solutions take a more prominent role in enabling risk-informed…

A question related to classification of instruments between trading and banking book.

We have an interesting question from one of our members.       "We usually perform OTC FX transactions with clients backed-to-back on the market (with Banks). Now we are going to perform a FX swap (i.e. Spot + forward) JPY/EUR for the Bank account for 1 week at the longest. The purpose is to get EUR place @ CB for LCR compliance purpose (no trading purposes). Bank's Management think that this should be considered as a trading position and therefore be classified within the Bank's trading book.…

And then you have the Middle East, where the smallest match is enough to ignite the largest fire. But are these worries really justified or…
